i love mac but its so exspensive!....

i love mac products there really good but i seem to find that you can get the same kind of things without paying all that money.normally i would have to save up for a haul as i only get £20 a week which wouldn't even get me a brush.its so annoying.what are your thoughts about this?

i agree, MAC is great but it can be expensive, especially their brushes. and if you watch makeup gurus or follow beauty blogs, a lot of them will honestly tell you that some MAC products arent worth buying, but a lot are.

researching cosmetics and beauty products is so easy with internet, and i google all the time for good quality beauty products that arent expensive. if you do that, you just kind of learn what products you need to spend money on and what you can just get at the drugstore or wherever for inexpensive prices. for example, bc mascara formulas tend to be similar, you can find drugstore mascaras that are just as great as expensive dior or lancome ones, and since you have to throw mascaras out every 3 months, really expensive ones seem like a waste.

I agree that some MAC products are expensive, but there are so many other companies out there that are so much more expensive. NARS, Estee Lauder, etc. When you think about it MAC is just high middle to low high quality makeup. I'm not saying MAC isn't good, because so many of their products are amazing. I'm just saying you could be paying so much more, you know?

On another note, I have a coastal scents palette that I use every day, and there are so many MAC dupes its unbelievable. So you don't have to pay more to get pretty much the same quality makeup you can purchase at a drugstore/department/online store.

I agree MAC is on the expensive side. I work for them and love their stuff. But I blog about makeup and have found some stuff that are dupes and it's nice to know. I also shop at The Cosmetic Company stores (USA) and they sell MAC stuff cheaper. I will spend the money on the stuff that is worth spending the money on. But if I find an eyeshadow that's the same as a MAC, but only costs a $1.99 I buy that one hehe! Example: MAC Copperslate is $14.50, but Avon is selling their Smoky Slate for $1.99 right now and it's a dupe. So go get that one instead. I like the Coastal Scents pallet...it is great for freelancing too.

Mac is a little pricey but if you look up reviews on blogspot, myspace, youtube u will find alot of dupes for different shadows

I really don't think it is expensive, compared to designer and high end brands M.A.C is actually pretty cheap for what you are getting 'as someone else said'. There is way more expensive brands out there, and when you think about it there is also a lot of supermarket brands that range around the same price as M.A.C.

I think it is worth every cent, though i've had some bad experience with certain products that 'melt' in the heat, but maybe they just weren't suited for my skin type.

What I do is I always go on reviews before buying stuff that is expensive, that way you will find if its worth it. Or you can enter contest on youtube too hehe! Sometimes they giveaways MAC gift cards and stuff!
Another thing you can do is to go on brush111.com, they sell fake mac but its very similar for the quality. I watched review on there fake brushes and they said it was sooo similar. Some videos on youtube show some dupes for MAC aswell like they Hot Pots form Coastal Scents. Enkore made a video about it

Yeah, exactly. There are quite a few products that are comparable to MAC, but there's still quite a bit of MAC that I haven't been able to find dupes for.
I also find that if you're just getting into makeup, build up your collection with some cheaper stuff from Coastal Scents, NYX, etc., so that you can experiment with different types of things. Considering it's cheaper, you'll have a lot more stuff to play around with rather than just buying a couple things at a time from MAC or other expensive brands. Once you get what you need from other places, then slowly build up your collection from the more expensive brands. That's what I did. Gives you more of a variety, you know?

Working there I also got a lot of free stuff so I have at least 2,000 worth of makeup and skin care for free. I loved that job... I miss it. I'm about to apply at MAC though while I build up my freelance clientele.

i love the MAC pigments....but i hear the Leishi pigments are just as good... i have only been able to find them on ebay...but for the $20 you spend on a MAC pigment...you can get a palette of Leshi pigments 40 total for the same amount...so....its all depends of you want to spend the money...i have only found one place that i like to buy makeup from online that sells real MAC make up at a slighty lower price...its www.aishasbeauties.com ...but there are more expensive things out there than MAC

I didn't go to school. All my roommates did though. I just learned from watching. Good thing you don't have to be licensed to be a make up artist or style hair.
I work for MAC right now, but I started my own business and some of my friends that I worked with at Ulta and MAC work for me doing weddings, Sweet 16 parties, homecomings, proms...all that jazz. We make pretty good money. Plus I networked with people who knew people who were photographers and now I know them and know people who are trying to be photographers. They love having people who are working on their own portfolio to help build theirs. It's a great way to get yourself out there. I have had almost all my jobs as referrals. It's great!
Make a website of your work, get business cards, meet photographers and get tear sheets. That's my advice. I am just doing it for fun and I have gotten this far. =)

I think mac makeup isn't that expensive considering what you're getting - it is really good. However, when you add it all up it does come up to a lot! I would just buy drugstore makeup but then get some mac items that you really need. Get it over time, one item at a time instead of saving up and buying loads.
I'm having some trouble myself as I can't decide what I really need to get and what I can do without for now. Everything just looks so tempting. I'm like a kid in a sweetshop as soon as I go near mac stores

hi guys!!! I'm an italian girl, so sorry for my English!! I love make-up, but in italy there aren't a lot of different products..and for that, sometimes, I HATE italy =/ in this period I would buy a looooot of mac eyeshadows,blushes and brushes but they are very expensive..(I have payed 17€ for one eyeshadow!!) I thought that in England and America they weren't, but I was wrong..!! so I want ask you, which mac products are good and of good quality? which aren't?? thank you!!! and.. sorry sorry sorry for my terrible "english" .. =)

Its actually one of the cheapest high end brands and it better than most , there products last for ages too , i still have a paint pot form a year ago i haven't even hit the bottom and I use it like everyday. But i agree that some products are necessary for example the brushes you can find good brushes everywhere. the eye-shadows however are amazing and stay put all day. Even if I found a dupe somewhere else that appeared to be the same colour I would always go for the mac one because its that price for a reason and the cheap one is probably crap lol
