Default From black to blonde - help ?

First post here - I'm a 16 year old boy from California. I guess the typical gay, I'm obsessed with hair and makeup.

So lately quite a few people have told me to consider going blonde, as they think it would look good. I'm getting a bit bored with plain black hair as well, so I decided to go blonde.

Here is a photo of my current hair color and length. ( Ignore the blue, everything is all black right now ) - http://i38.tinypic.com/2vrs6ip.jpg

I'm HOPING to eventually have this color - http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6344/...blonde350w.jpg

My natural color is a medium brown, which my hair is actually currently fading back to. The picture is also a bit deceiving, my hair is pretty thin with my current cut.. I have pretty oily hair as well, I can't condition at all or my hair looks wet all day, ha. I've heard of people's hair thinning after going blonde from black, lots of damage, and just a lot of overall bad stories.

I've also been cutting my hair for 2 years now, so I don't have any ties with any licensed hairdressers that I trust enough to help me go to blonde, therefor I'm going to do this on my own.

SO MY QUESTION ISSSS.. What are the things I need to know about going to such an extreme color from my current? Do you think that based on my already thin hair that it would be a bad idea?

it could damage your hair but if you dont mind my honesty, i feel that shade of blond could be too light for you anyways. you have thick, dark eyebrows and strong facial features, and you seem to have kind of fair skin, darker hair suits you. maybe go for like a light golden brown if you want to go lighter.

i'm sorry, i dont know the exact products, hopefully someone who is a hair dresser can comment and help you, but you need this product thatll lift a lot of the darkness out of your hair first, i think there is something better to use than bleach but im not sure what it is...then you can go ahead and color your hair

so, although im not a guy, i also have lightish brown hair that i dyed black, and then to blonde.
what i did, stripped my hair, then used a color corrector. you can get these at sally's or whatever beauty supply shop you have. my hair is about the shade you want, but pretty coppery.
basically, since you dyed it black, you arent just going to be able to get a blonde hair dye. black screwes your hair up, since there are so many levels of colors in it.
it didnt really harm my hair, its actually super soft now. haha. but if you are still concerned about it, get a deep conditioning treatment. you should be fine. :]

I would actually recomand you to go to a hair stylist.. Ever since going from dark to light is very hard.. but i would say that you could go slowly to light color, so it wont harm your hair.. as you color your hair, go for one or two shade lighter everytime.. since you already have colored your hair black, it will be alittle darker than what you expect, since there are pigments on your hair.. but dont worry, your hair will be lighter but you can also try to put some highligter as well.. in diffrent shades.. it will help.. but it has to be close to the shade you already have.. it will be lighter as you go lighter with the coloring hope this will help you.. atleast a little

i was black and i am now that colour blonde.
it took ALOT of work to get it like that, including alot of being called ginger for a while!
i know for a fact that my hair is very thick and can take anything, so what i did was i had it stripped then highlighted, so it was kind of a light brown with gingery undertones. it looked soo wierd. i left it like that for a while so my hair would have a chance to rest. i then had to dye it increasingly lighter shades of blonde to acheive the colour that i am now

Ignore people who say you cant do it =P , Britney Spears did it!
Look up the product she used, it was used on my hair by a stylist a while ago, I just can't remember the name =[ You can buy it at a beauty store like Sally's Beauty Supply I'm pretty sure, one of those big stores for the hairdressers. Imma try to look for the name.
    But anyway
it's a color stripper, it strips off the dye you've used and brings your hair color to a brassy color from which you could bleach your hair.

As a veteran of black to blonde countless of times, you can do this but be cautious while you do it. It's not for the faint of heart. It is very damaging to your hair once you do it but it's possible. If you already have previous dye in your hair, color stripper is your friend. After any previous color has been stripped out, you can go ahead and bleach your hair. If you don't want to be extreme, go with a dark blonde all over first, which is pretty easy to do. Then you can slap some lighter highlights on the dark blonde base at the hairdresser or enlist a friend's help to do foils which looks more natural. If you can't do either, then you can go lighter each month gradually until you reach that shade of blonde. Then use a toner which will tone down any unnatural bleached undertones to a more natural looking blonde. I'm a big fan of Wella toners but there are many good products out there to try.

Doing this on your own is risky, so I would definitely have someone help you. I would actually suggest you going to a stylist. Even though it will be more expensive, you are doing a " high risk" procedure here. You can go blonde, it just depends on how strong your hair is. If you aren't using a protein treatment, START! If your hair doesn't have enough protein it will turn into a cotton candy consistency and start breaking off and falling out. So when you go buy a deep conditioner make sure it is a re constructor or something with protein. If you have access to professional products I would highly suggest Sebastians Penetrait or Pureology's Green reconstructor. Depending on how your hair takes it, and what products you use, it will probably not lift the first time to blonde- so (just like BeachGyaru said) you'll want to keep unwanted tones out of your hair by using a toner. I'm guessing it will go a deep orange -red first. So use Blue-ash to correct the unwanted tones. Someone at Sally's should be able to help you.

    Good Luck!!!
