Be sure to have a good skin care routine. (depending on your skin type. oil control, exfoliation, toning, etc)
Moisturize your face, then apply a face primer which will help keep your foundation lasting longer. (ie: MAC Prep & Prime)
Apply thin coats of foundation over your face evenly, and if you're wanting fuller coverage apply it in thin layers until you've built up the coverage you want.
Then apply a tinted/transluscent setting powder to keep your foundation from rubbing or running off your face as well as to help blend everything together nicely.
If you have oily skin then I suggest investing in some blotting papers that will help get rid of excess oil on your face that you use during the day when you need to, which also helps to prevent your foundation from becoming patchy.

    hope I helped some!

@ Chic_, i agree, good skincare is crucial! we must have a good bare canvas to start with, before we apply our 'paints!' hehe!

but also, how you apply your foundation makes a difference too...stippling or duo fiber brushes, and fluffy blush brushes are the best at giving that airbrushed, even coverage, makeup look

I think that if you use lotion it can help. I'm guessing you use an oil-free type, and in that case you need to make sure your skin isn't too dry- or it will be blotchy and irritate the skin. When you get ready, do you rush and apply it too fast maybe?

It's going blotchy because you have oily skin like me! I also end up with quite bad skin as a result.

Now I use mineral foundation and then a setting powder. The foundation has great long lasting coverage and then the setting powder absorbs all the oil and finished the look beautifully.

I bought it from homeherbs which also sells other herbal and organic stuff, good for a good snoop around.

    Hope it helped!
