Default My makeup makes my face look dry

I'm 41 and use foundation, concealer, and powder on my face to hide the minor skin flaws that I have (acne scars and dark spots). My face always ends up looking dry and my fine lines seem a little more exaggerated. what can I do to help my face look smoother and less dry? I use revlon "age rewind" for my foundation, and ALWAYS moisturize. Everyone tells me I look young, but lately all I see is dry skin and lines!

Ps. Before I apply my make-up, my face looks smooth and moisturized.

My advice is use a moisturizer before you apply you'r makrup and dont use pressed powder. Use loose powder, it gives a more natural finish, it doesnt set in fine lines and it doesnt dry out you'r skin.
Furthermore you might need to change your foundation? I only use mineral foundation (liquid kind) because everything else makes my skin look dry, so maybe try a mineral foundation is moisturizer and loose powder doesnt work
In the summer I use a spf cream for my face before makeup instead of an ordenary moisturizer since sun ages your skin
Hope my advice can help you

Thanks for the info. I'll try the mineral make-up. It's either that or botox. lol

You know I ran into the same problem and it basically came down to trying different things until I got it right. I have also found that I have better luck when I take a minimalistic approach to my makeup. I start with either a moisturizer with SPF, or sunscreen (in the summer months). I then use Laura Mercier mineral foundation to provide a light coverage. It won't cover dark spots...it really just smooths out my skin tone. If you have particular spots that you want to cover then use a concealer or stick foundation to lightly cover those spots.

Another option is to use a makeup primer before you apply your foundation. A lot of people will swear by this and say that it smooths out the skin and provides a barrier between your skin and foundation so your foundation won't settle into your fine lines. I've used it in the past, but I have chosen not to use it on a daily basis. I find that with my current routine I'm OK with how things look and I'm not getting the dry look or fine lines showing up.

Whichever method you choose, you'll want to make sure that you're using a makeup brush to apply your makeup too. It will help give you a better application, whether you go with a liquid or powder foundation. It will prevent you from overdoing it on your foundation too. And, will help provide a more professional application of your concealer. You'll be able to get a lighter application and if you're working under your eyes you won't pull your skin and run the risk of causing wrinkles.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the suggestions/advice. I will try a primer and mineral make up. I have never tried applying my foundation with a brush, but I will definitely try it. Thank you!!!

If your skin looks smooth and moisturized but is showing up flaky after makeup it could 1 of 2 things or both:
1:your skin may have the right amount of water (hydration) but not producing the right amount of oil (moisturizer)-so keeping a hydrating mist like the Shu Uemura Dep Sea Water Mist near you and spraying before and after your done may help: or add a hydrating essence or serum to your skin may be the most beneficial most companies will provide you with a sample.
2: your makeup products may not be fine enough for your skin: try switching to an HD foundation where the powders in them are more fine so they don't show up as much. and when applying your foundation with a brush: use the brush to buff your skin out-to help your skin glow. I really love the armani blender brush-their other brush is a little more full coverage but I will only use the blender brush in my kit. and MDMUM.com is so right-primers are amazing I love th Armani fluid Master and YSL Primers.
    hope this helps
