This is what I do for my foundation routine:

I squirt a little bit on the back of my hand, and then I use a small foundation brush (MAC has some good ones, or you can get them from any drugstore), I dab the brush in the foundation and then dab all over my face, while blending it in with the brush. Sometimes I do use a triangular sponge but that usually soaks in most of the foundation and so if you want full coverage, I'd stick with a brush.

    Hope this helps

thanks i have never tried a brush.. i have used sponge but it never gave me satisfying look. my skin is dry so i first take a bit of moisturizer on my hand and then few drops of liquid foundation, mix it up and then apply it on my face and beck with my fingers.
Do brush make your skin more drier or its fine?

I used a brush before but now I apply my foundation with my fingers, just like I apply my moisturizer, and it really looks more natural! I don't like the "mask effect" of the brush...

My skin is also pretty dry, but I've never noticed if the brush makes my skin more dry. So I think it should be fine.

I only use my fingers with tinted moisturizers, because I'm usually in a hurry when I use those, and it still looks natural and not streaky since it's sheer coverage. If I use liquid foundation and want more coverage, I tend to stick with a duo fiber/skunk brush, because I think it gives me a more even, and "airbrushed" finish.

I think duo fiber brushes are the best because you can buff in makeup really well, and paddle foundation brushes, sponges and fingers tend to be streakier because it seems like the makeup is just sitting on top of your skin. Even if I do use a paddle brush or fingers, I like to go back and buff out the foundation with the duo fiber brush. Or the Eve Pearl method is to go back in with a damp sponge to sheer out foundation. I guess it depends on how good your blending skills are though! And also what looks best to you.

Brushes don't make your skin drier, but beauty products, genetics, or weather/environment are just some of the things that can dry it out. Mixing foundation and moisturizer is a great idea for those with dry skin.

I've used several different methods throughout the past few years, I'll give you my opinion and tell you which method works best for me. When I first started wearing foundation in my early teens I applied my foundation using my fingers as I had read in magazines that your fingertips warm up the foundation whilst your applying it giving you an even coverage and an easily blendable base. I used this method for a while as I felt it worked well but then I decided to try out foundation brushes. I really liked using foundation brushes, the application is really simple and doesn't take a lot of time to do or master the technique. It also made my skin look a lot smoother and healthier. It wasn't untill a few months ago when I thought I'd try a duo fibre brush to apply my liquid foundation. 1 pump of foundation on the back of my hand, dab the brush onto the foundation, dab on to my face then buff and blend in a swirling motion. It literally takes me 30 seconds to achieve airbrushed looking foundation. I love the fact that it takes no time or real experience to achieve and gives such great results. I dont think I would ever use anything but a duo fibre brush in the future! xo

I put my foundation on the back of my hand to warm it up so it applies easier, and then depending on my mood I use whatever I feel like to apply my foundation. Whether it be a regular foundation brush, stippling brush, sponge, fingers, I dip the tool it into the product and then apply it to my face. Pretty standard.

But I have dry skin, and people with dry skin, I learned, usually have problems applying their foundation with brushes because when you use brushes you are actually lifting up dead skin cells, pushing them back down, and pulling them back up again which is called micro-exfoliation which is what happens when you're using that buffing motion to apply foundation. And you know what that means.. cakey foundation. Not good. So if you have dry skin, applying your foundation with a damp sponge will illiminate those problems and you'll get a flawless finish.

If its mousse foundation I use a brush and if its liquid I squirt a small amount out and apply it with my fingertips, but either way you follow the same proceedure. Dot the foundation on your forehead, apples of your cheeks, chin and either side of your jaw, bridge and tip of your nose and under your eyes and then blend for even coverage

I was using a sponge for applying but felt that it draaaagged along my skin and didn't look too purty, ended up all red and blotchy (probably just me being too heavy handed though) so now I just put it on the back of my hand, dab it into the usual places (forehead, cheeks, nose and chin) and blend blend blend with my fingertips. Much prefer it this way

Duo fibre stippling brush every time! I've tried using other methods but the overall finish is never as good.
