Thread: Give me a makeover!

I usually just wear mascara on my top eyelashes. I curl them b/c my eyelashes stick straight out :/ And usually curling them really doesn't make them look a whole lot better. I want to step it up this year and try doing other stuff with makeup. I don't want anything ridiculous or overpowering.

Btw, I look gothic with black eyeliner so that's a no. My eyelids are sort of weird so I have a problem with it anyway.

I don't know what your eye color is but I agree that black liner can be harsh. I think brown eyeliner looks pretty and natural on every eye color. Since it sounds like you're pretty new to makeup aside from applying mascara, I would start with practicing eyeliner. Smudge your top lash line with a brown eyeliner. Try to get it as close to the lash line as possible. If your eyes are sort of protruding, carefully line the lower lash line to give the illusion that your eyes don't protrude. If your eyes are smaller, avoid lining the lower lash line but sometimes I like to line the bottom lash line a third of the way in.

As far as eyeshadow goes, I really like the Wet n Wild eyeshadow trios. The 6 color palettes seem good as well, but I can't speak for those as i have never tried them. The eyeshadow trios have the words "Brow bone", "Crease", and "Lid" imprinted on the shadows themselves and on the back of the palette shows how to apply the colors to your eye. These retail for about $3 or $4 at any drugstore that sells Wet n Wild (Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart, Rexall Pharma Plus/ Zellers if you live in Canada). The brow bone color in the palette is usually shimmery though, so I would use the Wet n Wild single shadow in Brulee as a highlight instead (You want to avoid shimmer all over the lid, at least have one matte/satin color).

As for blushes I really like the ELF Blush and Bronzer duo in "Blushed" and "Bronzed". Again, can be found at Target/Winners.

For lips, Maybelline, Revlon and Rimmel have nice lip product options.

Those are just some drugstore recommendations. I think drugstore is the best way to start expanding your collection but if you are interested in some higher end products I think are great just let me know and I'd be happy to share some of my favourites.
