Default Can you recommend me a foundation please!

or tell me your favorite foundation and why.

First of Hi I'm new to the forum, I've been obsessed with make-up ever since I found xsparkage on youtube like a year ago so I decided to learn to do my own!

I really really desperately need help deciding what foundation to get. I went to ulta today and had no clue where to start. I used to use bare minerals but for some reason it doesn't work for me anymore it looks chalky and cakey.

I have oily acne-prone skin. My forehead is almost always broken out so I need something that won't look bring attention to it. I honestly don't know the slightest thing about primer. foundation, concealer or anything but I would love to make my face look as flawless as possible.

    Thanks

I only recently started playing around with foundation etc, but I found that the Boots Natural Collection is really good, and it's cheap as chips! A high end brand would probably give you better coverage but I like the coverage I get with the Natural Collections stuff. First I use No7 shine free primer (for face) and No7 eye primer then NC coverup stick in fair, followed by NC tinted moisturiser in light, if I fancy I use some 17 bronzer&highlighter.

I have combination normal/dry skin mostly so I'm not sure how well these would work on your skin :S the shine free primer might be a good base to start with though.

I have oily, spot prone skin too. Like Linsay_x said, I'd reccomend Natural Collection. Other good brands are Collection 2000, 17 or Rimmel. As for colour, if in doubt, err on the lighter side. You want one that if you rub in to the back of your hand, it looks natural in daylight, so if possible, check outside. You also might like to try tinted moisturiser, as sometimes foundation can clog up your pores and give you more spots. Same rules apply as with foundation. Good luck and happy shopping!

Maybe is you use Bare Minerals mixed with a moisturizer, it won't look too cakey and chalky. Be aware that how you apply it may cause you to cake up. You can always ask the sales associate on what they recommend with your problem. Winter is right with checking which color matches you in the natural daylight, but it's best to apply it blended on one spot on the lower jaw line.

So what do you use to apply your make-up?

For oily skin I would really reccomend MAC Oil control lotion used UNDER your foundation of choice, I use this as I have oily patches around my t-zone and it works wonders as it works as a primer too. I use MAC Studio fix fluid foundation, but if I were you I would go around the beauty counters in your price range and ask for a foundation match and they'll go through their foundations that would suit you best and match the colours up perfectly! For the flawless look that you want I would highly reccomend MAC Oil control and MAC Studio fix fluid foundation and set with a powder! Also, what skincare products do you use? As a good cleanser, exfoliator, serum and moisturiser are what makes the perfect base for your make-up, I would reccomend Origins, I did some agency work there last week and they literally have something for every skin type!

    I swear by Revlon Colorstay!

It's a medium to full coverage foundation and they have one for combination/oily skin and one for normal/dry skin. I use the combination/oily one and it gives such a nice finish (I use a duo fibre brush to apply it with) after I've applied it I use MAC MSF Natural to set it and it makes my make up look flawless and last all day.

I think the first thing to do for your complection to be as aweome as you are is to get on a great skin care regimen something that will teach your skin to behave like skin and how to acutally produce oils correct like the Shu Uemra pure-renovate collection. They have a toner that I am in love with-i use it on men that don't want to wear makeup for their big events but know that they need to do something.-and I follow with the pure-renovate emulsion a mattifying hydrate because its still important to keep hydrated and the pink oil cleanser or the cleansing foam is ideally for skin that has blemishes.

Back to foundation I think that my favourite is the shu uemura smoothing foundation or the Armani luminous silk-the products are made really find so theyd on't sit on top of your skin like a lot of other mineral based makeup which is why it can give almost like a metalic or cake finish.-try use a goat hair foundation brush like the cover fx 106 or 160- it gives a fully coverage look with out the feel.
and everyone is right about primer-its is your best friend
