Question What's the best product to make loose glitter stick to your eyelids?

    Hi all,

I LOVE all things glitter and have been playing with different looks. I just got MAC 3D silver, MAC Glitter Gold, and a Ben Nye Ice Gold (or something like that). Gorgeous!

The problem is, I can't get them to really stick to my eyelids and while some stays there, a lot of it falls all over my face! I tried using my Beauty From the Earth Mix & Fix but I think that works better with a more powdery pigment (as opposed to little fragments of glitter). I've heard Benefit cream shadows work well.

Because I couldn't really get the glitter to adhere, and because it is (ironically) hard to remove with makeup remover, I went to the office today in a suit and glittery cheekbones. Class!

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thank you,

    Rach

My best suggestion is using an eyeshadow primer or paint. You can get them pretty much anywhere. OR if you don't mind the feeling on your lids you can use petroleum jelly, sounds gross, but it really does work. I bought mac pigment sparkles and I couldn't get them to stay on my lids for the life of me either, but both of those work really well, just make sure you mix it well. You can also use the glitters in lip gloss, or if you're feeling super ambitious mix petroleum jelly and eyeshadow to make your own shade of lip gloss!

Thank you Mac! Glitter lovers unite!

I will try petroleum jelly. I'm especially interested in that because it's clear. My issue with using a primer as a glitter adhesive is that some of the looks I'm working on involve putting the glitter on top of eyeshadow. So I'd have primer, then eyeshadow, then glitter. I need something that is clear and won't mess up the layer of eyeshadow below. I swear that, in a tutorial I can no longer find, someone used a special clear product specifically designed to make glitter adhere and which could be applied over the base shadow, but dangit, I can't remember where it was! If I find it I'll let the world know.

Sounds good! you have to used very little of the petroleum jelly, it does feel funny, but it works. it will also make your eyeshadow underneath a little darker!

Petroleum jelly worked great last night! I love these little tips about how to use products we already have in unusual ways.

In other news, I think I found the glitter adhesive of my dreams. This morning I picked up "Hollywood Lights Tacky," a clear adhesive, for about $7. I applied it over a shadow and then added glitter on top and it has not moved all day. I got mine at the Cinema Secrets store and it looks like they sell it online (http://www.cinemasecrets.com/store/p...ghts?TreeId=16) and it's on amazon also. On a related note, Hollywood Lights glitters are gorgeous! MAC, you have some competition.

I also dug up the tutorial (see link below) in which the artist used another adhesive. She uses Graftobian Liquid Skin Sparkle in one of the Opal colors (I can't tell which.) The Liquid Skin Sparkle already has some gorgeous glitter in it, but then she applied chunky loose glitter on top. Hooray!

Have you tried a product like, Urban Decay's Heavy Metal? It has an adhesive built into it and sticks to wherever you put it. I'm not sure how may colors it comes in.
What color glitter do you want? I know of some other glitter products for hair, but I'm not sure how it would do for eyes.

I love Heavy Metal! NYX makes some decent glitter liners also, as does Too Faced. I've been doing pretty well using Cinema Secrets Tacky to get my loose MAC and Ben Nye glitters to stick.

You could try stick or pot concealer if you don't like petroleum jelly
Fluid concealer won't work as well as it usually sets apose the stick or pot concealer

You could also try a really sticky cream eyeshadow (one that does not set)
i would by one in a very neutral colour so you don't have to buy one for each coloured glitter

Hope that helps a little even though you all ready have some suggestions
But hey it's always nice to have more than one options

i always used a cream eyeshadow that way it had a but of color too show through too or i have a cupcake cult cream eye primer. Basically you just need something a little tacky to stick too without making it crease.

A great product to just come out is Too Faced Shadow Insurance for glitter. It is great! You can also use eye drops for a foiling technique. Read about both on my blog!

Thumbs up Re: What's the best product to make LOOSE GLITTER stick to your eye?

THANK YOU! So much I've been having the exact same issue! I've been trying to figure out a way to get my glitter to lay over my eyeshadow forever now, and I knew that there was something in particular I had heard about some kind of potion just for eyeshadow glitter. This helps a lot! FYI to others dont use Sally's glitter adhesive (unless you just want glitter by itself).

You should try using a clear lip gloss. It works amazing and it helps the glitter to stay on the lids pretty long. It's also easy to remove right after! Some of the beauty gurus on youtube do the same. You can even add a thin layer of the clear gloss on top of your shadow and then add the glitters to it and it won't mess up with what you have on your lids already. I know this is late but I hope it helps the others who also have the same question

Some great suggestions here. Just to re-cap, a very thin coat of petroleum jelly or clear lip gloss works best.

Eyeshadow primer works best for eyeshadows but are not that great for glitter.

I agree with the primers. Probably unless it's a sticky base primer then it'll work. But I still prefer the clear gloss because all the glitters just stick to it without making your lids feel that it's heavy.
