Hello I am a Makeup Artist new to this Forum

Hello Everyone name is Jennifer Barnes I am a Makeup Artist. I am specialized in all aspects of makeup as Beauty, Photography, Theatre, TV/Film and Special Effects. Although I do consider myself an Effects artist. I am a recent graduate to the field and if anyone could give any advice to a new up in coming makeup artist just starting out. Especially when it comes to different job sites out there it would be very much appericated.

I'm just about to start a BTEC Makeup Artist - Level 2 course. I would love some advice on what you would think are the main kit essentials to have and what products would you recommend

Well Definitely six basic makeup foundations , a nice Eyeshadow palette (i like Sephoras eyeshadow palettes) Lip color palettes, powders, moisture, cleanser, toner. etc...Thats basicly what I have in my kit...amoung other things

one of my classmates was going to go there but they ended up just being all about the money instead of the education

Wow, really? I did community service for school there and they seemed into the education. But then again, it's each to their own. I will considering beauty schools, too.

Hi Jennifer, just wanted to say hello, I've just joined the site, too. I'm in the UK, tho, so probably not much help to you regarding job sites... However, I'm sure you'll find your way around pretty quick and get some cool bookings, just keep at it. I used to live in LA years ago, few different locations, loved it, especially the long sunny summers, I miss that. Bye for now. Lorraine

Think your reply got cut off! Your work looks amazing on Facebook, and you're in the right area for film work - it's on your doorstep! I lived at Venice Beach (my apt was almost on the beach, right on the boardwalk, loved it), in Sepulveda in the San Fernando Valley and I lived in Lake Tahoe through a summer and a winter season - that was mega, snow chains every day, the lot! I couldn't hack it, tho, that snow was too much for me! I hope to go back one day for a visit, it was a memorable 3 years of my life. Back to makeup, I took some SFX training recently, so I can now do cuts and grazes, so real they make you feel yukky just looking at them! Lorraine

Thanks!. I haven't been over to Venice yet, but definitely want to. I LOVE SFX work its mostly what I do. I have such a passion for it
