tips for application of foundation on dry skin?

I have really dry skin, and I am allergic to all moisturizers unless prescribed by the doctor.
I use vaseline to moisturise my skin and sometimes use as a base or primer.
Are there any specific foundations I should be looking for or good primers?

There's a moisturiser called "Cetafil" that is great (and affordable) for people with all kinds of skin, including dry and sensitive. You might want to give that a try. It can be found in most drugstores.
I'm not sure which specific brands of foundation will be good, but just make sure you go for liquid foundations and exfoliate (there's some lovely gentle exfoliators out there and you could even make your own {eg. honey and sugar scrub} ) before putting on your moisturiser and foundation. Don't worry to much about a primer on a day to day basis if you're using a good moisturiser, unless you find your makeup slides off a lot.

Unfortunately its very much a trial and error type situation, as what works for others may not be right for you and vice-versa. You could go to the MU counters in shopping centres and ask to try the products. Tell them what you need from your foundation, how your skin has reacted in the past and ask them for a small sample to test for a few days. Most counters should be happy to give you some, some might act a bit miffed but should still give you them, hahaha

Have you tried using mineral foundation? They are safe on any skin types and are not drying. I heard Oilatum is a good moisturizer for dry skin. I see a few makeup gurus use that on their skin to moisturize their face before applying their makeup. If you don't want to use a powder foundation, there are always liquid mineral foundations. If you want to use a regular foundation, choose the one that is for dry skin. I would suggest you try some samples first before buying a regular sized one so you know it works good for you.
