Default Insurance for Makeup Artists - why it's so important

As a business worman and practising MUA, it continually shocks me to find so much (as we are talking over 53%) of professional makeup artists do not carry any form of insurance - so kit and equipment is not covers, let along products and public liability, what about money, loss of earnings, theft etc. It took me a lot of time three years ago to find a good, fully comprehensive insurance, but it wasn't easy.

http://imakeupmatters.com/I have also discovered that those MUA's who are insured with a policy under "nail technicians" for the application of makeup are only insuraned (if they read the small print) for mobile makeup and many sessiona, catwalk, photographic and editorial pro MUA's are using this insurance as cover! So frustrating, so I decided to try and do something about it and am pleased to say that AVIVA has come to the rescue with a great new policy provided through AJP Partnership for makeup artists. imakeupmatters.com is now up and running and it even covers you for overseas work. www.imakeupmatters.com - DO YOU THINK IT'S WORTH THE RISK?

Yes, I agree. Most insurance companies don't know what kit insurance is. They think you are a contractor like a plumber or construction company, so they only do industrial trades that are in their books. Or they think you want entertainment or film insurance, and you have to explain to them that you're not an event hosting company or a film production company. It's so damn frustrating explaining what you do to a call centre highschool dropout, and you know they are flipping through a book to find out what you're talking about.

Yet in union film they want proof of kit insurance. I think this is more common in the US than it is in Canada. All the big features here are from the US and so is their paperwork with an addendum to our accounting system.

So, I am definately going to look into this.
