    Default Dry Skin Issue

    Hi all!
Ok, so I am first going to say, I am a HUGE Mary Kay user, so I mainly use MK products, but I am not by all means willing to try other products.

Lately, I have been using the Velocity Lightweight Mosituriser, for my dry skin, but it's no longer cutting it. I still get scaly, flaky, dry skin.
I had also used some off-brand facial scrub in the shower, when washing my face.

Are there any other kind of moisturisers I could use? I don't use the Microdermabrasion as much, I find it was a little more harsh on my skin than I wanted this winter, so any suggestions would be GREAT!

    Thanks all!

firstly, do you find your skin is sensitive? if so, you need to be using a more gentle scrub for your face. its important that you dont use it everytime you wash your face, probably about every 2-3 days should be enough.
secondly, how did you get onto using MK products? i dont know much about the brand but if you really like it then i would suggest visiting a skin therapist who specialises in the product, this will help you to get the most out of the range.
you could also try using a night cream before bed and a lighter moisturiser for in the day time. tinted moisturiers are fantastic to use during the day because most have an spf factor and freshen your look when reapplied throughout the day.

lastly, remember that your skin is a reflection of what you consume, so make sure you drink alot of water and eat healthy foods (thats not to say you can't break this rule sometimes!) and Vitamin E/ zinc supliments are fantastic, especially for women, although they need to be taken everyday in order for you to notice the difference.

i realise i havent recommended any brands but i hope this helps!

    Hi Malzer06!

Bleh, I used to get dry flakey skin too, it's so annoying. It makes putting on foundation/powder just about impossible.

I love Ahava's Skin Replenisher. It works wonders on my combination skin. It's also an amazing makeup base, because it leaves no residue and absorbs so quickly. You might want to look into the Intensive Hydration Mask from them too, but I'd only use that once in awhile. And I've never used it, so I don't have too much to say on it.

(The entire Ahava line is great for my dry/combination skin, if you want to check the entire line out)

I'd make sure to exfoliate once a week (no more). It really helps my flakes.

    My favorite exfoliators:
Burt's Bees Peach and Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub
Don't worry, it's not all that "deep", it never dries out my skin. In fact, it seems to leave this coat of moisturization that might be great for you if you don't mind a little residue. It smells amazing too!

And then my top favorite is found in my kitchen: A bit of sugar (couple tablespoons), mixed in with some olive oil (enough to make the sugar moist). It moisturizes and scrubs off dead skin! Be sure to rinse it off thoroughly, otherwise it might cause some breakouts.

Wow, thanks guys! These will really help!
I started using the MK brand about...six years ago, after a friend of mine recommended it. It helped for a while, but it's not cutting it anymore.
A nite cream? Hmm, I never tried that. I will keep that in mind!

    Thanks so much!

I like in a VERY dry climate and am prone to VERY dry flaky skin. One thing that always saves me is Origins "Night-a-mins". They're amazing!!! Also, you could try a facial brush like the Clarsonic and a more mild soap, so then you could be clean and get all the dead cells off without the more harsh chemicals.

there is a big difference to cleanser and a wash-off. if you find your skin sensitive, use cleaser, that is a milder way to clean your face.
To the problem. Make sure that your Mositurisers and creams NOT contain methylparaben, propylparaben, petrolatum and zink oxid for your case. Zink oxid can seem to dry out your skin very badly, and occures moslty in creams that you use to dry out blackheads and spots. Methyl - and propylparaben has never been good for ANY skintype and is a very, very popular ingrediens in for example Nivea and Dove. It is to your skin as all them color stuff is to food, No good. Petrolatum is just what it sounds to bee, petrol, and occures in mostly lipbalm and cerats, but also in products that tend to dry out blackheads and stuff like that. Good luck!

liz earle's cleanse and polish hot cloth cleanser, excellent for sloughing off dead skin, a mini yet gentle exfoliation as you put the creamy cleanser on dry skin, then wet the muslin cloth it comes with, and wipe off! simple, yet so effective...her super skin moisturiser would be best suited to your skin type, its the one in the white jar...and after cleansing, but before moisturising, use her instant boost skin tonic, fab for returning your skin to its normal ph level

I used to have a small problem with that! I tried a skincare line called Dermalogica and it is fabulous!

You should use a more gentle cleanser, and to get rid of the flaky skin i'd exfoliate at least 2 times a week. Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant is good for skin thats more on the sensitive side. Its rice based, in powder form, and you just add water and the powder emulsifies into a cream. Amazing stuff!

Dermalogica's moisturizers are great too. If your skin is SUPER dry i'd try the intensive moisture balance, or the skin smoothing cream.

If you go to their website you can do an online "face mapping" where you answer questions about different areas of your face, and they recommend what products you should use. here is the link!

    hope this helps!

Hey there....i too am a dry skin sufferer and the last thing you want to use is a cream that has high levels of parabens and sulfates. Most creams on the market conveniently forget to tell innocent buyers that their products contain harmful ingredients...i dont know how they get away with it but they do. I can however suggest two companies that are true to their word and exude integrity about all their products...MIRENESSE (Australia) and PRAI (USA) you will enjoy these products...after a few weeks of use..you will never look back

With dry skin you may want to exfoiliate your skin, get rid of the dry skin. You may also want to use a moisturizing mask weekly. Use this at night! Use a rich moisturizer at night because that is when most of your skin does its healing and gets the maximum benefits from your skin care. You may also want to use a serum b4 your moisturizer to seal in moisture. A good cleanser is also reccommended. Use your skin care twice a day and be consistent. Nothing looks good on the face if it is not taken care of properly. I hope this helps.
