I have never heard of homemade nail polish removers. I do know that some nail polish removers contain acetone. U can try straight acetone; although it can be quite harsh. Acetone is not recommeded to be used on artificial acrylic or gel nails, or it will eat away at the product; but it should be fine for your natural nails. I would recommend just buying some nail polish remover at Wal Mart (preferrably without acetone). Nail Polish remover is made of chemicals, in order to be able to remove nail polish which is also made of chemicals. Unfortunately there is no getting around the chemicals. Unless u buy nail polish from a health food store (which contain natural products), but I also heard it does not look as nice as regular. nail polish. Don't worry about the effect the chemicals have on your nails. Our nails are the same as our hair, and they don't need to breathe. We perm & colour our hair, and we put polish on our nails, etc. It's only when the chemicals get on our skin continously after a long time, that we could develop an allergic reaction to it (on our skin).

    I hope this helps.

Hi Tigress. I have noticed that my hands, feet and nails are never looked after properly. I would really appreciate it if you put togethor a routine for natural nails and hands and feet which can get dirty sometimes! I am a very active person, but i can afford to spend a while on looking after my nails. xx

I don't quite understand your question? Perhaps it is the grammer? A manicure & pedicure will give u soft hands & feet, especially if u keep it up regularly!

I hope this answers your question. If not, please explain your question further.

    thanks,
    Tigress

Sorry for taking so long in getting back to you. Regular maintenance for your hands, nails & feet on a daily basis consist of:

washing, using an orangewood stick to clean under your nails, and to push back the cuticles (easier to do after a shower, when skin is soft). Also in the shower, keep a pumice stone or foot file handy, and file any callouses on your feet (easier when skin is wet). Of course, moisterize, & moisterize!! Use lotion DAILY on your hands & feet. Also keep some cuticle oil (or a small drop of olive oil) by your bed, so u remember to apply it to your cuticles every night at bedtime. Plus keep your nails filed to your preferred length. it seems like a lot, but once u get into a routine, it is just like brushing your teeth.

    I hope this helps.

My cuticles are horrible, and I know I shouldnt but I have a really bad habit at picking at them. I notice when I wear nail polish I dont pick at them as much so I try to keep my nails polished...I dont wear acrylic nails anymore it's been about 4 years but when I did I NEVER had problems with my cuticles. Why was that?

If you don't mind can I ask you about your career. I am almost done with beauty school and I, definetely, am going to do makeup but I really like the manicures and pedicures. Do you have any advice? The beauty college covers everything but I don't think I am going to do hair. Any advice for someone going into the Nail Tech field would be deeply appreciated!

Hi....probably a dumb question, but i was wondering if there is anything like nail polish or nail hardener that you could apply to your nails BEFORE re-doing acrylics to protect them from getting thinner and more damaged? I have a calcium gel nail polish and was wondering in i put a coat on if that would be a problem...i know your nails need to be rough for the acrylic to go on properly, but i just though i would ask if you have any advice
